As a result of demographic pressures the Education Capital required a development plan to expand Girton Glebe Primary School. Education Capital would like to see the expansion to take into account the possible further development in future years by not building in an area which would not prevent further expansion to the school. Templeman Design were appointed to conceptualise the design brief to provide an extension to the existing school. Including two classrooms and two group rooms, together with associated facilities in accordance with BB99 Briefing Framework for Primary Schools. The design proposal developed to consider the existing schools architectural language with classrooms provided with high ceilings to improve comfort of the teaching space. A contemporary style has been included such as the solar shading, equal light windows, and simple external form. Internally the space has been designed to be vibrant and light throughout with large windows overlooking the existing playground. Templeman Design have been appointed to obtain planning, building regulation, and authority approval with development of the detail design ready for construction.
