Dry Drayton Primary school was officially opened on September 4th by Heidi Allen (MP for South Cambridge).
Mrs Norman Said “We have finally got a fantastic new building. The building is an amazing one off by a new architect – and really is a sight to behold”.
We believe the development of the school has pushed the boundaries in architectural style for village schools. Interior spaces are light, and the vaulted ceilings provide an exciting space for the learning environment. Sustainability has been an important factor to the project. Designing from the foundation up is key. Considering orientation, solar gain, passive strategies and provided a thermally efficient envelope without the need for ‘bolt on’ sustainable glitz, has resulted in a cost effective project while achieve an energy efficient building. Although this is a modern building the carefully chosen materials and building form provide a traditional gesture to the old school building and its surroundings. Bright colours where chose to accentuate the building form while adding to a playful school environment. School buildings should be creative and inspiring, not just plain boxes.
